On the back of the success of animated series Castlevania, Netflix is planning to capitalize on adaptations of other video games. According to Variety, the streaming platform’s next target has already been identified: the Diablo franchise, developed by Blizzard North and created in 1997. The famous hack’n’slash game is now on its third edition with Diablo III, which continues to captivate millions of gamers around the world.
The idea of an adaptation came from Andrew Cosby, founder of comic book publisher Boom! Studios, and producer and screenwriter in his spare time (2 Guns, Hellboy). The future showrunner has joined forces with Activision and Netflix to adapt Diablo for the small screen. We don’t yet have any details on the plot or the characters who will appear in this animated series, although it has been confirmed that the medieval/fantasy universe of the video games will be preserved.
The announcement comes just as the latest edition of Diablo III is set for release (featuring all the extensions included in the game) on Switch on November 2. While they wait, vampire lovers can turn to Netflix to catch up with Season 2 of Castlevania, which will be released on October 26.
