Wanting to improve Chicago mental health services that would further help the betterment of the city, Chance the Rapper donated $1 million to Chicago’s mental health providers. He says it’s to change the accessibility of the mental health resources and will be through his non-profit organization, SocialWorks.

At 25, Chance the Rapper has become a philanthropist as his fame continues to rise, with SocialWorks also donating millions to Chicago’s public schools and announced he would be donating to 20 more.

Part of the $1M donation will go to SocialWorks, which is starting an initiative called “State of My Mind”, helping to connect people with treatment. The rest will be distributed across six mental health providers in Cook County, each given $100,000.

In addition to his non-profit, in July, Chance the Rapper purchased assets to a local Chicago news site, Chicagoist, from a New York’s public radio station. “I’m extremely excited to be continuing the work of the Chicagoist, an integral local platform for Chicago news, events and entertainment,” he said in a statement according to Insider. “I look forward to re-launching it and bringing the people of Chicago an independent media outlet focused on amplifying diverse voices and content.”
