Method Man, of Wu-Tang Clan fame, has landed a role in the upcoming Shaft remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the film, the rapper will play a old friend of the titular detective Shaft, who will be played by Samuel L. Jackson.
Since the early 2000’s, Method Man has garnered roles in both movies and TV series, including Oz and The Wire on HBO. He is currently the host of TBS’ Drop the Mic, which features celebrity rap battles.
Other actors tied to Shaft include Jessie T. Usher, Alexandra Shipp and Richard Roundtree — who starred as Shaft in the original 1971 blaxploitation film. The film also marks Samuel L. Jackson’s second time starring as Shaft, after playing the role in the 2000 remake of the film.
Shaft is slated to be released in June 2019.
