Future is set to produce a remake of the 1972 blaxploitation film, Superfly, along with filmmaker Joel Silver, reports Deadline.

In addition to a producer credit, the Atlanta rapper will also curate music for the film’s soundtrack.

Steven R. Shore, the son of the original film’s director will serve as an executive producer, while Director X has been tapped to direct. Rapper 21 Savage is also reportedly in talks for a role in the film, though his role has yet to be confirmed.

Super Fly’s original soundtrack was created by legendary R&B singer Curtis Mayfield, and was one of the few soundtrack albums to have ever out-grossed its source material. According to Director X, Future will be using that soundtrack to help guide the new work.

“I’m also excited to be working with Future, both on the music and as a producer of the film—the original soundtrack is legendary, and that’s an inspiration for the artists that Future is working with to bring a singular modern musical vision to the film,” the director said.

Trevor Jackson and Jason Mitchell will star as the two main protagonists: Youngblood Priest and Eddie, respectively. The original film dealt with a cocaine dealer who attempts to score one last deal before retiring from the drug trade.

Further details about the Superfly remake are currently unknown.
