A Fourth Matrix Is Happening With Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss Returning
Variety is reporting that a fourth live-action film in The Matrix franchise is happening with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss returning as Neo and Trinity with Lana Wachowski set to write and direct the film.
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana,” Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said. “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
Production on the film is scheduled to begin in early 2020, Wachowski co-wrote the script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Wachowski said.
Plot details on the film haven’t been revealed, and given the ending of 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions it’s not a clear cut answer.
The original film in the series celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and will screen in Dolby theaters later this month.
