After revealing earlier this morning that Black Lightning is not part of the Arrowverse, The CW has unveiled a trailer debuting its newest superhero. We already knew that the series, from Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil, would focus on superhero-turned-high school principal-turned superhero Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), but this first look implies that his daughters, one of whom narrates, will play a pivotal role. That choice seems to fit with the fact that the network’s leads tend to skew younger. Still, family crime fighting is a facet of the show that’s only alluded to here, as the footage mostly focuses on Black Lightning deciding to put back on his suit to defend his city against the threat of The One Hundred gang.
Black Lightning will premiere midseason on The CW.
