Chance the Rapper Wins BET’s Humanitarian Award, Calls for Justice
Chance the Rapper earned a huge honor at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 25), when he was presented with the Humanitarian Award.
After BET CEO Debra Lee celebrated the Chicago rapper’s efforts, he delivered a passionate acceptance speech while also getting a few things off his chest.
However, before Chance, former First Lady Michelle Obama offered some kinda words via a pre-recorded message.
“We have known Chance and his family since he was a wee-little-baby rapper,” she said. “It has been a thrill watching him come into his own in so many ways. In addition to making some really amazing music, Chance has been taking that big, bright spotlight that follows him around and he’s shining it on young people in our hometown of Chicago.
“With these passionate efforts, Chance is showing our young people that they matter, that they have something inside of them that is worthy of being expressed, and they have so much to contribute to their communities and our country,” she added. “Chance, you are an astounding role model and an inspiration for all of us.”
